Raven, Sam is gorgeous and his expression reminds me of Cassie's expression so much. She is now quite grey in the muzzle, and she often looks, well, not quite "sad sack" but pensive and very thoughtful.
i think it's partly the droopy lower eyelids that give some older dogs this expression. I read my own thoughts and feelings into his facial features ... but I think you're right - it is thoughtful, pensive. They're so handsome and so cute at the same time. I'm heading over to your blog to see if I can find some pics of Cassie.
