The Watcher ... he enjoys these quiet times in the country

To me, this photo conveys an important aspect of Sam's life right now ... he loves to just watch ... and although he's deaf, I believe he's listening with his eyes and with his memory, to the stillness, the beauty (this was taken right before sunset last weekend, when Tim, Sam and I camped out on some friends' land) ... he was watching the dying rays of sun, the far distance, and feeling totally comfortable with his "pack" -- his humans -- lying by his side. That's the best of life for a guy who is technically older than 100!

That is wonderful and definitely makes me teary (oh, stop it Kim) why do I always get teary when I see Sam? Does he have this affect on all of his girlfriends? ;)

How can one NOT be moved by that sweet sweet face and your touching description.

Kim, he pretty much does have this effect -- on his human girlfriends anyway. We get teary while his canine girlfriends get wiggly when they see him. heheh.

Linda, thanks for what you wrote. He is most definitely a sweet dog.

I especially love your posts about Sam. Spent an hour or two one day last week looking at his pics on your flickr site - very enjoyable.

thank you all for commenting -- for letting me know you are reading and enjoying my blog posts.

Laura, do you have a dog? a flatcoat or another breed? Sounds like you are an animal lover like me.

Yes Maureen, I do have a dog - the best of kinds, a mutt - a mix of Lab and Chow. He's a sweetheart too, but not quite as gray in the muzzle as your Sam.

Ah, Laura the mutt breed. You're right - they're usually the best (I'd say "always" but I'm biased towards our Sam, of course.) Hellow to you and your canine-friend. :o)
